Brand Overview: Salty Girl Beauty

Organic and Natural, #saltygirlbeauty offers #beautyproducts that are nourishing while supporting a bigger cause. The brand gives back to Foundation4Love, which provide gestures, something as simple as dinner or transportation, that may help relieve some of the stress and worry for people experiencing a cancer diagnosis.

The Skin Perfecting Concealer, Amanda ($24) promises to nourish, hydrate, and provide coverage using organic coconut, jojoba seed, castor seed oil, and cocoa seed butter. It feels a bit stiff but I like it. The color of this #concealer is close to my skin tone and I like applying this to some pesky dark spots that I have. The medium coverage lasts for about half a day. It comes with a small mirror inside that makes it an ‘On the go’ concealer so you can easily retouch. It can feel a bit tacky and thick for some with oily skin like me, so it is necessary to put a powder after applying.

For a rosy complexion, Multi-stick in Ali ($25) is a sheer, natural-looking flush using natural, vegan, and gluten-free ingredients. It applies matte and feels velvety when applied to the skin. It has a coral pink hue that freshens up the skin and for me, this is best worn during the day. It’s best applied over a foundation with a silky or dewy finish for the healthy look. I like that this is buildable and blendable – can range from subtle to full on rosy cheeks in 3 swipes. My only gripe with this is it doesn’t last long on my oily skin so you have to keep reapplying every 3 hours.

The Lipstick in Ryan ($28) is a matte rose/coral shade that uses jojoba, avocado, and coconut oils to nourish and moisturize the lips. It also uses naturally derived organic butters like mango, cocoa, and cupuacu to soothe, hydrate, and help heal dry lips & improve elasticity. This looks more coral on the site but looks really nude on the tube. It’s creamy and has a bit of gloss when applied. The #lipstick is super nude, almost beige on my lips. It doesn’t blend with the skin but stays on top of the lips, which I don’t like. It’s non-drying and non-sticky though so, that’s a plus.

Overall, this natural #makeup products are meant for those on-the-go and likes a simple, natural look for everyday. That’s honestly how I would describe their products, natural and simple.

Skincare Review: Clarity Rx Sleep It Off and Skin Defense

The products from Clarity Rx promises to be plant-based and results-driven. Made in the USA, they offer sustainable without the use of harsh retinols, benzoyl peroxides, hydroquinone, parabens, sulphates, phosphates, artificial colorants, fragrances, extenders, and fillers. Looking at their side, I got the feel that the brand is straightforward, which I like so I was really excited to review these.

Designed as a natural retinol alternative anti-aging treatment, Sleep It Off ($120) is 21-day at-home skin transformation sleeping mask. It removes rough texture, loss of elasticity, dark spots, fine lines, and wrinkles smoother, firmer, brighter, clearer complexion with blue green algae, b vitamins, amino acids, and extract of ginger and orange.

I am no stranger to a multi-step routine and sleeping masks are part of it. I enjoy its added benefits and I was excited to try this one as it claims to be a retinol alternative. The mask has a faint sweet smell and has a nice slip to the skin. It thicker than most of my sleeping masks but doesn’t feel heavy. It also doesn’t feel like it’s sitting on top of your skin. I also don’t wake up with an overly oily face in the morning. I just have a smooth and glowing complexion the next day. The first few days of trying this, I expected some redness in the cheek area and warmth as I apply the product but it vanished after about a week of use. After 21 days, I noticed brightening and firming in my skin. It also helped even my skin tone a bit. I used this for 21 days straight, stopped using it for two weeks, and got back it again. I was happy to get the same results afterwards. If only it wasn’t so expensive!

After the mask, the Skin Defense Environmental Protection SPF 30 ($32) is meant to be used in the morning. The FDA-approved, broad-spectrum sunscreen promises to be naturally moisturizing, non-irritating, non-sticky, and water-resistant sunscreen. It contains safflower and sunflower oils to nourish, moisturize, and condition the skin.

As someone with oily, finding a correct face spf can be difficult. A small amount can cover my whole face. I like how this doesn’t smell too strong, it’s lightweight, and it doesn’t sting. What I like the most about this is it doesn’t make me oily during the day, which is usually what happens with other sunscreens.

I enjoyed discovering this brand and these products. I would recommend these vegan sleeping mask and spf to anyone looking for anti-aging products and those who want to have brighter, clearer, and protected skin.

Cult Favorite: Laneige Water Sleeping Mask

The Laneige Water Sleeping Mask became a product I hold close to my heart. First, because this is one of the products my mom gave in support for my path to #selfcare. Second, I can’t get over how great it was for my skin.

Using water as an ingredient that will help solve skin concerns, Laneige created a water recipe for all their #skincareproducts. The Water Sleeping Mask uses the Green Mineral Water to moisturize the skin with mineral water and vegetable infused water extracted using the Ocean Brew process. It is an overnight mask that promises to give the skin a lively, well-rested appearance the next morning by purifying, moisturizing, soothing, and relaxing the skin while you sleep.

This is HG status for me. There are a lot of products I could use during days I feel like the earth is inching closer and closer to the sun every second. This, however, is a go to. I feel like I’m packing everything in a cold, fragrant, and pillowy goodness. It is also so hydrating that I don’t wake up like a shining disco ball. I sometimes even skip on the moisturizer when I use this. This is the only sleeping mask that matched my skin perfectly – not too heavy for my oily skin but moisturizing and hydrating enough to help manage it. It still smells amazing (like fresh water) and its consistency is unlike anything I’ve ever tried – a gel type moisturizer that dissolves into the skin and leaves it feeling velvety smooth and bouncy.

I honestly wish there was a bigger tub.

Brand Overview: NaturaBrasil

Founded in 1969, NaturaBrasil works with hundreds of families in the Amazon to sustainably source bio-diverse ingredients for its products. Aside from developing natural ingredients for skincare, hair care, and body care products, they also work with over 30 local communities in the Amazon region, including more than 300 families, to help them develop sustainable business models that benefit the forest.

The Gentle Cleansing Mousse promises to remove dirt and impurities. It creates a soft, airy foam that is a pleasure to use. One pump can cover my face. It feels really gentle yet cleansing so I like using this in the morning. It doesn’t leave a film-like feeling. It just leaves my skin squeaky clean and cleanses the skin.

The Creamy Foaming Cleanser is made with cupuaçu butter and aims to wash away impurities and makeup while maintaining the skin’s natural balance. This foaming cleanser might be creamy upon first application but it doesn’t leave a residue after cleansing. It actually provides that squeaky clean feeling without making your skin feel dry or stripped. It feels gentle on the skin and leaves it feeling soft. I like using it at night as this effectively removes impurities my first cleanser left. I saw the instant effects of it on my face. My skin felt clean, soft, and light. It was easy to rinse off, and I didn’t have any problems using it. It creates a soft, airy foam that is a pleasure to use. I have tried other cleansers in foam and have always felt like I’m getting less product but this felt heavy. One pump can cover my face. It feels really gentle yet cleansing so I like using this in the morning. It doesn’t leave a film-like feeling. It just leaves my skin squeaky clean and cleanses the skin.

The Energizing Face Cream claims to act on the first signs of aging by hydrating, energizing, and protecting the skin using brazilian jambu extract. The moisturizer has a slight floral smell and feels heavy but applies thinly on the skin. It dries quickly but leaves a velvet-like finish on the skin. For my oily skin, this is best used at night especially when I put on a sleeping mask over it. I wake up with soft, plump, and moisturized skin in the morning without getting oily.

The Açaí Creamy Exfoliating Soap is made in the Amazon with energizing açaí oil and skin-smoothing açaí seeds. It promises gently exfoliates with body-smoothing açaí seeds and moisturizes with vitamin e. When I read exfoliating on its name and saw how smooth the product is, I thought it was going to be too gentle from my skin. Was I wrong? When I started soaping my body, the exfoliators came out. It can be a bit rough for those with sensitive skin. For me, I like using this twice a week to refresh my skin. I like how it doesn’t just exfoliate, it also moisturizes the skin. I was surprised as to how soft my skin felt after I use this.

The vegan Açaí Hand Cream is blended with açaí oil and murumuru butter to treat and soften hands. Infused with the benefits of Brazil nut oil, this is a formula unlike any I’ve ever tried. I’ve grown accustomed to using hand creams that feel too waxy or greasy, so imagine my delight to find that this formula is light, fast-absorbing, and it smells fantastic. The texture is lighter than most, and leaves your hands soft and smelling like a sweet, powdery scent. I have yet to see its effect on my nails but my cuticles have never looked better.

Out of everything I tried from this brand, I liked the Creamy Foaming Cleanser and the Energizing Face Cream the most. They are both creamy but worked well for my oily skin. They both left my skin moisturized and refreshed after every use. These products I would recommend for those looking for vegan options in their #skincareroutine and those who are looking for moisturizing products that are also cruelty-free and sustainably sourced.

Brand Overview: Matis

French skincare brand Matis has been offering products for men and women since 1936. To be honest, I have never heard of this brand and I’m the only one to blame for that.

I got a variety of their products, mostly from their Réponse Pureté line. The line is made for those with oily skin types to help fight against a shine, large pores, dullness, and skin imperfections. The line mainly uses the Matisebo System, an active ingredient that combines specific acids to Enantia Chlorantha (an African tree) extract to help regulate sebum secretion.

Their Clay Mask aims to help purify, clean, and soothe the skin without drying it. It balances the skin by absorbing sebum excess. It also contains yellow clay to purify, absorb excess oil, and tighten pores. What I instantly liked about this was that it feels creamy upon application. It doesn’t tighten or get completely dry making it feel gentle on the skin. It applies almost like a lightweight moisturizer and has a yellow color but dries gold and shiny, almost like melted glitter. It’s a bit difficult to rinse off as it feels sticky but the difficulty rewards you by revealing a plump and soft skin. It also leaves a sort of protective cover on the face, which vanishes once I dry it down. It just leaves a moisturized and soft skin. Unlike other clay masks, this doesn’t dehydrate my skin or leave it feeling stripped.

The Intense Purity Serum is balancing and perfecting serum designed to beautify the skin texture. It promises to reduce the appearance of pores and imperfections while it rebalances the skin flora and regulates sebum production. It contains Cutaneous Ecosystem Protector from natural sugars to protect the skin and malic acid grafted from oat to remove dead cells and impurities. This feels really lightweight and it dries fast. Immediately after application, it gets absorbed into the skin, leaving a matte feel. I use this in the mornings and I believe this keeps the oil at bay. It doesn’t completely eliminate it but it helps to keep my makeup the same way I applied it for more than half a day. Couple with an oil control mist and this works perfectly even when I let my makeup stay on for too long.

The Shine Control Purifying Care is day cream designed to refresh the skin while controlling sebum production. It has microparticle polymer to control shine and aha. This is a good daytime moisturizer for oily skin. It looks and feels thick but feels so light on the skin that I thought dollop would do. However, it would need more to cover my face. It can be applied liberally without worrying that it would feel too thick and make my skin oilier. It does pill under some silicone primers, however. Aside from that, I have no problems because this leaves my skin dewy and matte, something I never thought I would say as a result of a product.

The Fundamental Nourishing Serum is from the Réponse Jeunesse line, which is focused on anti-age prevention. IIt claims to help restore essential lipid reserves and rebuild the natural barrier of the epidermis. It contains white lupin extract to stimulate the synthesis of the epidermis structure proteins and improve the barrier function, shea butter to regenerate and soften, shea illipe to moisturize, and cranberry extract to help the skin to maintain its youthful reserves. This is a super light, non-greasy serum. Not heavily scented, you just get a whiff of a mild fragrance. I use it almost every night, before applying my moisturizer, but I would gladly use it by itself. Because it’s super light, it’s incredibly easy to spread all over the face. The non-greasy formula, which feels more like water than cream when applied on the face, really makes it easy for the skin to absorb. It dries perfectly and leaves my skin feeling instantly quenched, without the stickiness of most moisturizers.

I really am glad I found out about this because it’s rare for me to find a line of products that will not only keep oil at bay but also create a balanced skin. My skin isn’t just matte, it also looks healthy and well-moisturized since I started using this.
