Cult Favorite: First Aid Beauty Hello Fab Bendy Avocado Concealer

I saw the First Aid Beauty Hello Fab Bendy Avocado Concealer from Samantha Ravndahl and yes, I was influenced to try this. As someone who has dark circles under dry skin and the occasional dark spot under oily skin, I’m always on the search for a concealer that will be light, easy to use, and would work for both skin types and concerns

The #hellofab Bendy Avocado Concealer promises to be a full-coverage, buildable concealer that has a natural, luminous finish. It claims to stretch and bend with the skin’s movements throughout the day so it never cracks, creases, cakes or settles into fine lines. It contains avocado oil, vitamin e, and mushroom extracts to help hydrate, condition, and soothe while caffeine to diminish the appearance of undereye puffiness and dark circles.

I have the shade Medium and this #concealer is lightweight and easy to blend but packs a punch. It has a thin almost watery texture instead of the foundation-like and creamy consistency I usually get with most concealers. That was an instant like for me because it looks natural while slightly covering my dark spots and dark circles. First application provides medium coverage but can be buildable to achieve a fuller one.

It dries thinly on the skin and I literally do not feel like I have concealer on. What’s more, it doesn’t gather on the lines under my eyes and stays on for hours when I set it with powder. I get why people love this and I’m so happy to have gotten to try yet another concealer that works for my type of coverage and my type of laziness. This is my first First Aid Beauty product and I can’t wait to try more. Thank you @ssssamanthaa for opening my world to this.

Skincare Review: d’Alba Piedmont Peptide No Sebum Mild Gel Cleanser, Peptide No Sebum Balancing Toner, and White Truffle Intensive Ampoule

It’s not every day that I see anti-aging skincare products for oily skin so I was really interested in trying out d’Alba Piedmont. Made without synthetic preservatives, artificial coloring agents, and fragrances, their products combine European and Korean skincare approaches to improve the skin.

The products they sent me all use white truffle as their star ingredient aimed to speed up cell renewal for fresher and younger-looking skin.

Contained in a luxe green packaging, the Peptide No Sebum Mild Gel Cleanser promises to clear excess sebum and blackheads, balance the skin, and minimize pigmentation with a blend of BHAs, calamine powder, 20 amino acids. Predictably, this has a runny gel texture. It also smells like soap but I like how gentle and silky it feels as you massage it on the skin. Upon rinsing, it removes excess oil but leaves the skin feel nourished and soft. Personally, I find this too gentle for my skin and I also like to have a perfect balance of removing my skin of oils without drying and dehydrating it.

Claiming to be an anti-aging toner for oily and combination skin types, the Peptide No Sebum Balancing Toner is what I was the most excited to try. It contains pearl extract and niacinamide to brighten the skin, peptides to firm and plump, and BHA and AHA to combat oil and eliminate blackheads. This has a certain viscosity to it but sinks in quickly. It leaves the skin bouncy without feeling tacky, making it a good base before makeup. Using this I noticed that it softens the skin and helps brighten it. Though it doesn’t aggravate the oiliness of my skin, it only helps keep the oil for a couple of hours. I used this for about a month and I didn’t notice improvements on oil management, unfortunately.

The White Truffle Intensive Ampoule is an unexpected favorite. It uses white truffle extract and caviar to nourish and hydrate the skin. This feels luxurious but light. It has a serum-like consistency – amazingly thin and soothing to the skin. It leaves a bit of a tacky finish so I like using this at night. It gives a nice silky finish afterward and feels incredibly nourishing and hydrating. Using this made my skin soft, smooth, and plump. It gave me results I used to only get from thick anti-aging products I can only use sparingly in fear of clogging my skin. I honestly can’t believe something as lightweight as this can nourish my skin so much.

Bodycare Review: Sole Toscana Organic Awakening Gift Set

(PR) Sole Toscana also offers body care products also inspired by the Italian countryside and also created cruelty-free using natural and organic ingredients. Their Organic Awakening Gift Set ($95) consists of Awakening Organic Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Cleanser, and Body Lotion, which all contain cypress, lemon, and mint essential oils. What I liked about this set is the scent. It’s fresh and clean and really does awaken the senses.

The Awakening Organic Shampoo is a plant-derived, organic shampoo promising to wash away product build-up whiles cleansing, strengthening, and fortifying strands with amino acids. The Awakening Organic Conditioner aims to freshen, soften, and add shine to the hair weightlessly.

The Shampoo has a clear runny texture, runnier than most shampoos. Also, it doesn’t lather so, it confused me a bit a first. However, I used this alone at first and noticed that it was able to manage my dry scalp. My scalp didn’t feel itchy and I didn’t notice flakes. My temperamental scalp is dry at first but it would get oily after about 12 hours and this managed that as well. It feels really cleansing so I like using this after using a lot of hair products. The Conditioner, meanwhile, has a whipped texture that doesn’t feel greasy on the hair. Using this, I noticed that after a long day, my scalp isn’t as oily as usual and consequently, my hair didn’t look limp. What I like about these two is that they make my hair volumized and shiny without the limpness and the oiliness.

The Awakening Organic Body Wash is low-foaming cleanser while the Awakening Organic Body Lotion aims to soothe and hydrate the skin.

The Body Wash is thin and light on the skin. It also feels really gentle. As a preference, I like my body cleansers to be more moisturizing. On the other hand, the lotion is quite thick and creamy without feeling heavy. It’s easy to rub in and use it all over my body, and with consistent use notices it really leaves my skin soft and supple.

Skincare Review: Huangjisoo Pure Perfect Cleansing Oil and Pure Daily Foaming Cleanser, Moisturizing and Anti-Pollution

(PR) We always look for a cleanser that will first do its job of cleansing the skin effectively but still feels gentle on the skin. Created by Dr. Jisoo Huang, Huangjisoo offers natural skincare products that are EWG verified and vegan.

For the first cleanse, the Pure Perfect Cleansing Oil ($32) consists of 0% water and 98% vegetable oil and promises to gently cleanse the skin. It contains jojoba oil, apricot seed oil, and primrose evain to cleanse, protect, brighten, and moisturize the skin.

This is honestly the easiest to use #cleansingoil I’ve tried. It might feel thick and heavy when you pump it out but it immediately emulsifies into a thin and lightweight milky consistency once mixed with water. This cleansing oil can remove anything, from dirt and makeup to ink stamps. I remember getting a stamp on my arm and tried using this product to remove it and it did. It smells citrusy and its pump has a clicker underneath to prevent accidentally pumping it so it’s very handy should you bring this pear-shaped bottle with you on your travels. It also rinses easily, leaving the skin stripped of excess oils, no residue left on the face at all.

For the second cleanse, they have the Pure Daily Foaming Cleanser ($25) that comes in five variants and all contain sodium cocoa apple amino acids as its natural preservative. The cleansing foams have a soft gentle foam that removes excess oil and leaves the skin squeaky clean with a powdery finish.

The Moisturizing Pure Daily Foaming Cleanser has wheat seed extract, ceramide, geranium maculatum oil to rejuvenate the skin and create and strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier. This doesn’t strip the skin away from its natural oils. If you have a sensitive skin and is unsure of what cleanser to get, I would recommend trying this one. It’s natural, organic, vegan, and cruelty-free, and also does well on hydrating and moisturizing the skin. Whenever I use this, my skin feels clean and refreshed all the time. I like working this into a rich lather and letting it stay on my face for a good minute before rinsing it off. It’s my way of maximizing the product’s benefits on my skin.

The Anti-Pollution Pure Daily Foaming Cleanser aims to cleanse and minimize the effects of pollution on your skin using schizandra chinesis fruit extract, omiza extract, lavender extract, green tea extract, and origanum majorana leaf oil. I honestly thought there wouldn’t be any difference between these two cleansers but there is. I don’t know why this product left my skin dehydrated on the first week of using this, especially when used in the morning. It made my skin oilier. Unfortunately, I think the Moisturizing variant suited my skin better.

Cult Favorite: Sachajuan Ocean Mist

For years, I’ve been trying to perfect that easy to do yet long lasting beachy waves. I am not for curlers, perms, or waking up a few hours earlier to look effortless. In short, I was looking for a miracle. And it has been going fine. I have a few texturizing sprays in the rotation that do the job. Never perfect but isn’t that the very essence of beachy waves, the imperfection of it all? A few limp strands after a few hours or crunchy hair parts or product build up here and there?

Well, Sachajuan corrected me.

The Ocean Mist promises to add texture and while adding texture, creating a tousled and textured appearance with just a few spritzes.

12 hours with the Sachajuan Ocean Mist

This mist smells exactly like the ocean. It leaves a bit of crunchiness on the hair without the stiffness and without the product residue when you comb it with your fingers. It creates the perfect balance of smoothness, softness, and volume to the hair for the perfect beachy strands.

I use this after putting my hair into a bun. After an hour, I get subtle beachy waves that look natural. It doesn’t clump the hair and leave an odd strand sticking together in certain areas. It just looks effortless and natural. It also lasts the whole day. I was out one day, with my beachy waves made with only this mist and two buns held for 2 hours, and the volume and waves held on from 11 am to midnight. I am not kidding when I say not one product has done it for me like that. The longest I had before this was 6 hours before I saw waves start to die down. This is just amazing. Some of my colleagues even asked if I got a perm and my husband even asked if when went to the salon to get my hair done. That’s how good it is.

I want a jug.
