Skincare Review: Coola Mineral Face Matte Tint Moisturizer SPF 30, Rosilliance Mineral BB+ Cream Tinted Organic Sunscreen SPF 30, Daydream Mineral Makeup Primer Sunscreen SPF 30

To be honest, it was only when I really got into skincare that I religiously applied SPF. So, it was also only a few years ago that I realized how difficult it is to look for an SPF that would work for my oily skin. You know something that’s not too heavy, not too creamy, and nothing that will aggravate the oiliness of my skin. While on the search, Coola gave me some vegan SPF options.

The Mineral Face Matte Tint Moisturizer SPF 30 ($36) promises to be a moisturizer and SPF in one. This is so light and it applies like a silicone primer. The tint is a touch too light for my skin tone but manageable. It’s matte but not mattifying so, on a warm day, I get a bit of shine on my forehead and on my nose by lunchtime. By hour 7 I can see some foundation movement on my forehead so I definitely think this would suit those with dry and normal skin better.

The Rosilliance Mineral BB+ Cream Tinted Organic Sunscreen SPF 30 ($52) also contains rose stem cell actives to nourish and provide antioxidant benefits. This honestly looks ashy on the bottle so I didn’t think it would work well with my warm skin. It does once first applied. It also leaves a bit of a white cast. Not great right? However, it seemed to have settled on my skin after a few minutes so, I’m good. However, after walking under the sun after a few minutes, it immediately left my skin oily and I haven’t had this experience in so long. This is definitely for drier skin types.

The Daydream Mineral Makeup Primer Sunscreen SPF 30 ($42) also has honeysuckle, white lily, and iris stem cells to deliver antioxidants. This feels siliconey and feels hydrating but this made my skin oily in the afternoon and it made makeup move around. Like I can see foundation gathering in small spackles on my forehead. Sadly, this is yet another SPF for dry and normal skin types.

Cult Favorite: Jane Scrivner Nourishing Cleanser

With cleansing as one of my favorite skincare steps, a cleansing balm can add to the relaxation level when cleansing and removing the remains of the day. NBPR noticed my love for cleansing and sent over the Jane Scrivner Nourishing Cleanser for me to try.

According to their study, around 30% of our skin’s oils helps kills germs and bacteria while locking in moisture. As we get older, we lose these oils and it leaves the skin looking dry, tired, and dull. To help solve this, the Nourishing Cleanser contains jojoba oil to mimic the skin’s natural wax production to replenish and restore the barrier function of the skin. It also contains organic beeswax to condition, calm, and soothe. The cleansing balm also has sandalwood, ylang-ylang, lavender, and sweet orange essential oils. These ingredients work to leave the skin balanced, rehydrated, plumped, and boosted.

This balm has a lightweight and thin texture but feels thick on the skin. The balm emulsifies into a thick oil after you massage it. Despite the heaviness, it glides onto the skin smoothly and feels relaxing, with the addition of the light and fresh scent this has. I know that this is meant to be removed with a cleansing cloth instead of water but as a matter of preference, I like my balms to be easily removed. With water. Unfortunately, as instructed, this doesn’t work that way. I know, I know, I’m a rebel. When removed with a cloth, which I’m trying to get used to, my makeup is gone with one wipe, like magic. It might take a couple of more wipes when it comes to mascaras and eyeliners but the cloth it came with feel soft and gentle on the skin. What I really like with this cleansing balm, though, is how nourishing it feels on the skin. The cleanser leaves my skin hydrated and soft after each use.

Skincare Review: Saturday Skin Bright Potion Probiotic Power Serum

With the rise of probiotics in skincare, #kbeauty brand Saturday Skin released Bright Potion Probiotic Power Serum, which they graciously gifted me.

This serum aims to give healthy-looking skin four probiotics, aided by two prebiotics. It also contains niacinamide for texture, tone, and radiance improvement, seabuckthorn fruit extract to nourish the skin, irish moss extract to soothe and hydrate, cotton extract, for boosted protection and hydration. This serum is also cruelty-free, gluten-free, and are made without sulfates, SLS and SLES, parabens, formaldehyde, formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinone, triclosan, and triclocarban, and contains less than one percent of synthetic fragrances.

I have always regarded Saturday Skin as a brand that caters to those with dry, normal, and sensitive skin type. However, the ingredients on this serum are too good to pass up so I took the chance in trying it. The serum has a creamy consistency but absorbs easily on the skin. It’s not the lightest serum out there but it’s light for my oily skin. It also dries matte so I can actually use it morning and night. I have been using this for about three weeks now and I have noticed that even though the serum feels extremely gentle on the skin, it does the job on providing me a radiant and glowing complexion. It feels hydrating and doesn’t make my skin shiny and oily in the afternoon and it also feels nourishing to the skin. Niacinamide is also pretty high up in the ingredient list so this also helps provide brightening to my skin. I feel like this is perfect for those looking for a gentle product that will nourish, hydrate, and brighten their complexion.

Skincare Review: Go-To Skincare Properly Clean, Face Hero, and Lips!

With witty product names and too cute packaging, m Go-To Skincare grabbed people’s attention. They claim, however, that there’s more than what the names and the photos provide. The natural and cruelty-free beauty products they provide also promises to provide effortless yet effective solutions to keep the skin happy and healthy.

A foaming cleanser, Properly Clean ($31) contains new zealand rainwater, sodium cocoamphoacetate, lauryl glucoside, sodium cocoyl glutamate, sodium lauryl glucose carboxylate, sodium chloride, dehydroacetic acid, benzyl alcohol, citric acid, and willowbark extract to reduce moisture loss, condition, clear pores, and shed dead skin cells. This a gentle foaming facial wash that cleanses the skin without stripping it from natural oils. As with most cleansing foams, I like using this in the morning as it’s not drying or stripping. It just provides mild cleansing to them. To be honest, I cannot set this apart from the other foaming cleanser I’ve tried save for the fact that this feels really gentle.

The Face Hero ($45) features 10 botanical and nut oils that promise to provide vitamins, antioxidants, and fatty acids to nourish, lighten dark spots, fine lines and other signs of aging. This product absorbs nicely into my skin and has a very lightweight feel with absolutely no greasy feeling. It feels really nourishing, especially after exfoliating. After a month of use, I was also able to notice the lightening of dark spots and some hyperpigmentation. I would definitely recommend this product for its nourishing and brightening benefits.

As the last step every night, I like putting on a lipbalm. Lips! ($15) contains lanolin to heal, moisturize, and sooth. It also has shea butter, apricot kernel oil, beeswax, sweet almond oil, evening primrose oil, vitamin e, pomegranate seed oil, calendula oil, jojoba oil, and avocado oil to moisturize, soften, nourish, hydrate, soothe, and calm the skin. This balm has a heavy oily texture that’s easily removed by water. I had the flu recently and unfortunately, this didn’t help that much. It easily dries and only provides so little moisture and hydration. Unfortunately, I had to use another balm that offered more moisture and hydration to heal my lips. It performed better when my lips aren’t so chapped anymore. It’s a good everyday option to prevent dryness and chapping.

Skincare Review: Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Sleeping Mask

When I first got into skincare, I immediately included sleeping masks in my routine. It has been part of my routine ever since so I liked playing around with what Fresh Beauty gifted me – their newly launched Rose Deep Hydration Sleeping Mask.

This sleeping mask is different from the others I’ve tried because this is a 2-step treatment that promises to drench the skin with moisture that was lost during the day and then locks it in overnight. The first step is a cooling gel essence that drenches the skin with rosewater. It also contains damask rose extract to hydrate, smooth, and strengthen the skin’s barrier and hyaluronic acid to plump the skin. The second step is a water-cream that contains evening primrose root extract to lock in hydration and time-release liquid patch technology to form an invisible veil on the skin’s surface and help attract and trap moisture while sleeping.

Both products are so watery that my tub, unfortunately, got some products mixed together. Packaging gripe aside, the essence is very watery and sinks in quickly into the skin. It has a cooling sensation and feels refreshing on the skin. It also sinks in quickly and works well with the actives I follow it with. The moisturizer feels refreshing as well. It’s creamier than the essence but feels lightweight and runny. It’s easy to apply and feels soft and nourishing on the skin. It leaves a bit of a tacky finish but it left my face looking soft and dewy the next day. You only need a pea-sized amount of the essence and the cream to cover the whole face so the tub will last long. This sleeping smells amazing also – fragrant and relaxing, a perfect scent to end the day. After a few weeks of using the product, I can attest to their hydrating and nourishing benefits to the skin.
