Bodycare Review: Frank Body Cinna-buns Scrub

Less than 7 weeks before Christmas so it’s nice to surround yourself with as many Christmasy things as possible. For me its the new body scrub from Frank Body. The Cinna-Buns Scrub is a limited-edition scrub that smells like my Christmas. It just perks me up and makes me want to decorate my house and paint it red and green.

It contains coffee, of course, to boost circulation and buff away dry skin, marks, and scars. It also has cinnamon to heal, hydrate, and nourish the skin. This body scrub also has honey and ginger powder to help moisturize, soothe, and protect the skin against free radical damage and premature aging.

Its texture and feel are the same as the original coffee scrub but this smells like Christmas mornings. It not only wakes me up in the morning, it also makes me smile. As with all Frank Body scrubs, this helps soften and smooth my skin while moisturizing and nourishing it.

Brand Overview: Gruum

Inspired by Scandinavian ideals, British selfcare brand Gruum aims to create purposeful products without gimmicks and labels. Their products are created cruelty-free and are for everyone.

Even their packaging is simple and it really called out the small minimalist voice deep inside me.

Kori, their vegan exfoliating face wash contains orange, eucalyptus, and witch hazel to balance and soothe the skin. It has a gel consistency which feels gentle, even with the exfoliating bits it has. It cleanses the skin without leaving it feeling tight but I personally prefer a foaming cleanser to be used every day. I have this one in my office desk for emergencies though.

Their face toner Gösta has witch hazel, chamomile, and rosemary to reduce shine, prevent clogged pores, and refresh the skin. This stung at first but it subsides after a few seconds. It refreshes and cleanses the skin of impurities a cleanser couldn’t remove. This is a bit strong for every day so, I like using this when my skin is acting up.

To moisturize, Kåre contains rosemary, sage, and green tea go protect and moisturize the skin. This is a very straightforward vegan moisturizer. Its only aim is to moisturize the skin. I like that it doesn’t promise to do anything else. True to its claim, this feels like how a typical moisturizer would feel. Personally, I prefer a more hydrating moisturizer that will manage my #oilyskin but this would work to those with normal skin types.

They also have a coffee body polish aptly named Skrub, which comes in three variants – original, coconut, and strawberry. This body scrub promises to exfoliate, nourish, and illuminate the skin.

Strawberry is a favorite because I love strawberries and I’ve never had a strawberry-scented scrub before. It does smooth and exfoliates the skin with the coarse scrubs that amazingly feels gentle on the skin. My only gripe about this though is about how much mess it creates in the shower. It leaves my tiles stained so I need a few minutes to clean up after showering.

They also have a Shaving Kit that contains Oska, the razor handle made of zinc alloy, Osku, the blade razor ( I have mine in Max 5, which are 5 thin platinum-coated blades) that uses the brand’s Glydå roll system to smooth the skin and provide a closer cut, and Danne, a vegan shave gel that has aloe vera to soothe, witch hazel for its antibacterial properties, and orange for an uplifting sensation. I use this to shave my legs and the ergonomic design of the razor makes it easy to remove hair in one shave. Combined with the #shavegel, which feels light on the skin, the shaving process feels smooth and relaxing.

Its minimalist packaging comes with straightforward products that will be enjoyed by someone who wants a no-frills skincare product.

Peek Beauty Screenshot Natural Beauty Palette, Double Take

For someone who has a ton of shit in the purse, I would give anything that will lessen the things I carry a try. The Screenshot Natural Beauty Palette from Peek Beauty promises to give lush lips, full brows, and stunning eyes in a thin tin case. The palette I have, Double Take, contains Expresso Natural Stain Brow Powder, Metalimatte Naturally Quick Drying Blush, Nom Nom Natural Plumping Balm, Eye Will Stay Naturally Long Wearing Eyeshadow, and a double-ended brush.

This cruelty-free palette contains two eyeshadows that are pigmented and soft to the feel. The mauve eyeshadow I like to use for every day then I add the bronze-toned one if I’m going out or if I’m just feeling some shimmer. The brow powder also comes in two shades.

Both colors are bold, pigmented, and easy to apply. The brow powders glide onto the hair smoothly while leaving my brows looking fuller and bushier. The colors are definitely budge-proof but I mostly use the darker one as it suits the colors of my brows better. If I’m really lacking products, I usually use the lighter one as a base for my eye look. The brush is also a great help when applying as it blends the shadows. It’s not the best and softest brush in the market but it does the job of giving a good eye look.

The blush gives off a very subtle warm coral tone which melts onto the skin quickly. It’s lightweight and blendable too, which is perfect for on-the-go. It delivers a luminous finish, similar to that of a baked mineral blush powder, only in cream form. However, I wouldn’t say that it has a great staying power though. This is what I retouch the most as it doesn’t stay long enough on my oily skin.

The plumping balm, on the other hand, helps keep my lips soft and smooth. I have to reapply this throughout the day because I need more moisture on my lips. The lipgloss is cute, though, as it’s not too glossy. It also looks good as a topper to a more vibrant lipcolor.

Frank Body A-Beauty Scrub

Just when I was running out of body scrub, Frank Body comes out with a new one, the A-Beauty Scrub. The scrub A-Beauty (which stands for Australian beauty) promises to provide glowing skin. It contains finger lime to brighten, eucalyptus for its antiseptic properties, macadamia oil to hydrate and nourish, and kakadu plum for its vitamin c.

As with most Frank Body products, this smells like fresh coffee. The course scrub doesn’t feel harsh and on the skin, as always. As with all the Frank Body scrubs I tried, this left my skin smooth and soft.

I have been using this twice a week for a month now and have noticed brightening in the darker parts of my body like my knees and elbows. It has also helped to diminish the bumps I occasionally get on my arms. Honestly, Frank Body scrubs are a favorite and the A-Beauty scrub is no exception. They just get the right type of scrub my body prefers.

S5 Skincare Balance Fluid

Wanting to pay respect to the skin and the way it functions naturally, S5 Skincare are made with natural and organic formulas and without parabens, ethoxylated ingredients, SLS / SLES, glycols, phenoxyethanol, and petrochemical derived ingredients.

For oily skin, the Balance Fluid (£20 for a travel-sized bottle) promises to be an anti-aging fluid that balances and protects oily or combination and reactive skin. It contains alpine epilobium to reduce oil production and the appearance of pores, and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid to hydrate, soothe and plump the skin. This made me excited, as with all products that promise to control and manage my oily skin. I liked its soft texture. It wasn’t heavy on the skin and the lightweight texture felt relaxing on my skin.

When used in the morning, it helped hydrate my oily skin. It goes well with makeup and helps mattify my skin for about 4 hours before I have to blot. Worth noting, though, that when I blot, the oil isn’t as much than usual. These are good options for those with oily skin looking for a clean moisturizer than can be used in the morning.

Dermalogica Prisma Protect SPF 30

The Prisma Protect SPF 30 from Dermalogica is a light-activated multitasking moisturizer that provides broad spectrum defense while preventing future signs of skin damage. It has an intelligent drone technology to help boost the skin’s natural luminosity, bio-ferment from sage to help maintain an even skin tone, and advanced moisture magnets to provide hydration for visibly smooth skin.

As I’m getting more and more into spf, I’ve been trying out a lot of products. With someone who has oily skin , it’s as difficult as finding skincare products for the morning that wouldn’t slide off after 30 minutes.

I have to say, when I first tried this I found that is was creamier than I would prefer. I went light with the foundation and used powder products to prevent and impending grease-fest I’m about to experience. Amazingly enough, my skin felt hydrated and look bright all throughout the day. So the next day, I went for my usual makeup routine. This kept my skin hydrated and I only had to blot once in the afternoon. Since I have long forgone applying a moisturizer in the morning, this is a good product that protects, moisturizes, and hydrates the skin in one application. It’s light enough so it doesn’t make my makeup move around and my skin looks clear and healthy all day.

This is a good option for those looking for a vegan and cruelty-free moisturizing SPF that’s free of gluten, artificial fragrances, colors, and parabens.

Paula’s Choice Omega+ Complex Moisturizer

I’ve recently been into moisturizing and hydrating my #oilyskin. I feel like, since my skin is getting older, my face is changing. It’s slow but from time to time, I can feel my skin getting a bit drier than usual. I still get oily during the day but after exfoliating, my skin feels a bit different – a tad drier. That’s why my skin is loving hydrating and moisturizing products.

One of the moisturizers my changing skin is responding to is the Omega+ Complex Moisturizer from Paula’s Choice. This fragrance-free and cruelty-free moisturizer promises to nourish, hydrate, soothe, and address signs of dryness with a blend of shea butter and omega oils, guava, flax seeds, citric acid, passion fruit, ceramides, plant oils, and botanical antioxidants.

This is creamier than most moisturizers I’m used too. It’s lightweight and it settles into a creamy silky finish. Especially after exfoliating, this feels really hydrating and nourishing to the skin. For $35, this feels more luxurious on the skin than I would expect. This has helped my skin look more together and plumper in the mornings. It really shows in the middle of the week when my skin can look dull after being outdoors and exposed to pollution. Using this countered that, my skin is not as dull and sallow looking. It just feels soft, hydrated, and moisturized.

W=Hb2 Power Duo Face Serum

W=Hb2, which is short for Wellness = (Health x beauty) Squared, believes that true beauty is defined by your inner health, peace, and spiritual wellbeing. They only have one product – the Power Duo Face Serum.

The #serum has two products in one package. Phase I contains a tri-active age corrector complex (phytocelltec alpine rose stem cell, biotechnical tri-peptide, and probiotic bacterium) to encourage skin stell cell vitality, boost collagen production, strengthen the skin barrier. It also has a botanical sodium hyaluronate to hydrate the skin. Phase II, on the other hand, has the tri-active brightening and anti-pollution complex. The complex contains niacinamide to brighten, moringa seed pure cure peptide to purify, raspberry stem cell technology to protect the skin from environmental stressors, and sodium hyaluronate to hydration.

Phase II is runnier than phase I but both feel luxurious on the skin and get absorbed quickly into the skin so they can be used by those with oily skin either at night or in the morning. Both products hydrate my skin enough for me not to produce excess oil and lead to shine. Both serums left my skin soft and smooth. I liked how they can brighten up my skin without making it look oily. This is kept my skin from looking dull and sallow and instead left my skin soft and plump. The price is not for everyone but if you are looking for a product that will plump, hydrate, and brighten your skin, this might be for you. It’s one of those anti-aging products that doesn’t clog pores and works even for oily skin types.

Monthly Favorites: September 2018

So excited to start this monthly thing! For September, which lasted for like 10 minutes, here are the things that stood out to me. This month is not as smooth-sailing as the others – I got sick, I finally launched this site, and got to know a lot of products that I used even after I finished reviewing them.

Juva Skincare Brightening Facial Jelly

Juva Skincare uses Fullerene as the main ingredient in its skincare products. This Taiwan-founded brand also uses white jelly fungus, a natural moisturizer, designed for the skin to achieve and radiant glow. I have tried their Brightening Essence before and got good results so, I was excited to incorporate their other products into my morning routine. Used as an in-shower mask, the Brightening Facial Jelly has fullerene, cucumber extract, ginseng root extract, and algae extract to restore your skin’s firmness and glow.

I like using this before I get in the shower and rinse it off once I finish my shower routine as per the directions, this is recommended to stay on your face for 5 minutes. It smells very grassy and has a very gel-like texture that spreads thinly onto the face. It’s an extra step in the mornings but it doesn’t seem like it because I only have to have this on during my entire shower routine. It results in a refreshed and bright skin afterward. It is extremely useful during those days when you didn’t get enough sleep or if your skin is looking really dull. Available at

Jullai Super 12 Bounce Essence Oil Toner

Jullai uses natural ingredients and the cold-slow brow method. This method claims to retain the power of its natural ingredients by brewing for 168 hours. Their products are made free of parabens, sulfates, and artificial fragrances. Super 12 promotes bouncy skin with extracts of tomato, cauliflower, sweet almond, blackberry, magnolia berry, bayberry, artichoke leaf, pomegranate, spirulina, sea buckthorn, wintergreen, chia seed, and balloon flower.

With its gel-like consistency, the Super 12 Bounce Oil Toner almost feels like a serum. It contains sea buckthorn oil, olive oil, and jojoba oil to hydrate, nourish, tone, and firm skin. It sinks in quickly and is best applied by massaging it onto my face with my hands. Using a cotton pad would require more product. I thought this would leave a tacky feeling to the skin but actually just leaves it soft and plump. It provides an instant bouncy effect to the skin. I use this morning and night to prep my skin and leave it looking healthy and soft. Available at

Beauty Bio Rose Quartz Roller

The Rose Quartz Roller from Beauty Bio comes from sustainably harvested Brazilian rose quartz that claims to de-puff and de-stress the skin. It also promotes lymphatic drainage, helps tighten and reduces the appearance of pores, improves skin texture and tone, and minimizes the appearance of dark under-eye circles.

This roller is one of the best-made rollers I’ve tried. It doesn’t creak, doesn’t shake, and is just relaxing for the skin. It’s also my first rose quartz roller and the quality is just very luxe. It’s not as cold as the jade rollers I’ve tried but it feels equally relaxing. I have not noticed a difference on my under eye circles and my pores but I feel that this has helped even the tone and the texture of my skin as it helped the circulation on my face. I like using this after using the serum and while watching a show to relax and de-stress. Available at

NatureLab Tokyo Volume Shampoo and Conditioner

With the philosophy that healthy scalp is the secret to radiant, healthy hair, NatureLab Tokyo is devoted to simple, cleansing-focused routines with high quality, high performing ingredients. Their Volume Shampoo is a rice protein-enhanced shampoo that aims to build full-bodied, rebellious volume while the Volume Conditioner claims to create a balance of a major moisture conditioner and blowout-like volume enhancer. Both contain apple stem cells to replenish and maintain a healthy scalp, rice protein to build volume, add moisture, and improve the appearance of fine, thin hair, soy protein to strengthen and restore the hair’s thickness, and sakura extract to lock in color brightness and increase moisture. These are also made without parabens, sulfates, phthalates, animal testing, animal cruelty.

The Shampoo has a nice floral smell, which according to the site are inspired by cherry blossoms. It feels lightweight and doesn’t foam much but I like that isn’t drying or stripping to the hair. It just leaves volume to the hair without making it frizzy. The Volume Conditioner has a stronger smell than the shampoo and it smells like bubblegum. This has a generic conditioner texture but it feels more lightweight than the others, which I like. I have thin fine hair and a product can easily bring it down. This doesn’t do it. It just made my hair soft and smooth afterward, not greasy at all. Available for $14 each at this link. I am an affiliate so every time you shop on my link, I’ll get a commission. 😉

Frank Body Original Coffee Scrub

Frank Body uses naturally derived and cruelty-free ingredients. They also infuse coffee in their skincare products that promise to leave you soft and smooth from head to toe. The Original Coffee Scrub claims to address breakouts, scars, and marks and promises to leave the skin perky, even, and soft. It contains robusta coffee grinds to stimulate blood flow and promote collagen production, cold pressed sweet almond oil to hydrate, vitamin e to protect the skin from free radicals, and sea salt to tackle dry, flaky skin without irritation. This smells like blended coffee, which I really enjoy. It’s sweeter and milkier in terms of smell than the other coffee scrubs I’ve tried. A bit rough on the skin but the aftereffects are unlike its texture. It left my skin silky smooth. You’re supposed to leave this for 2-3 minutes so I like to do this on the weekends for my self-care weekend. It has helped in softening my calluses and dry patches after more than a month of use. It can get quite messy in the shower, though, but what I like about this is it can easily be cleaned. It doesn’t leave marks on my shower area. Available at

Kali The Wipette

Kali provides organic feminine hygiene products in a monthly box that’s customizable based on your needs. There are tampons, liners, and other hygiene products but for my box, the Wipette really stood out. The quality of the cotton Kali used in all their products is in high quality. There are no tearing and everything is long-lasting. Since the Wipette is wrapped one by one, they are easy to carry around and they don’t add bulk to my purse. Also, very sanitary. They can also clean everything properly. It’s the item I went through first. Available at kaliboxes.
