Skincare Review: Lilah B Aglow Cleansing Butter and Priming Oil

Fully veering away from the luxurious pebble Lilah B is known for, the brand showcases its new products in bottles and tubs. The thick rose gold-accented glass packaging is very different yet equally luxurious and very on-brand. Vegan and cruelty-free, these new drops are all welcome additions to my stash – new skincare products to compliment their pigmented and uncomplicated makeup siblings.

The thick glass bottle packaging first popped up when Lilah B launched the Aglow Face Mist ($48) last year. It’s a mist that helps create dewy and glowing skin. I like using it before applying my serums in the morning.

Joining the Aglow family are the Cleansing Butter and Priming Oil to help cleanse the skin and set it for makeup.

The Aglow Cleansing Butter ($44) promises to cleanse, soften, and condition the skin using rosehip extract, snow mushroom extract, and lavender essential oil. This buttery cleansing balm feels luxurious as it dissolves into an oil-like texture as soon as it comes to contact with the skin. It emulsifies on a milky consistency easily and rinses off quickly with water. It leaves the skin feeling so smooth and moisturized without the tacky filmy feeling, which really surprised me. I have never experienced my skin feeling this moisturized after the first cleanse. It’s something you really have to experience.

Upon first use, I had the feeling that the Aglow Priming Oil ($68) would work better with dry and normal skin types because of its oily yet runny feeling wrapped in a light cream texture. I was right. However, it also worked for my oily skin. Claiming to be a serum, moisturizer, and primer that aims to nourish, hydrate, soften, and smooth the skin with tamanu oil, jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, purple tea extract, grapeseed extract, and lavender essential oil. I used this in the morning after spritzing the Face Mist and before applying SPF. It cuts my routine in half, which is really convenient. Since it’s colder nowadays, this helps bring plumpness and dewiness to my skin. What surprised me though is how this didn’t make my skin look greasy. It didn’t make my foundation slide off either. It’s become my go-to for that glowy look which is achieved when it’s combined with my stick foundation.

I’m really impressed with these new additions in Lilah B’s portfolio. They all feel gentle and nourishing to the skin and I would recommend them to those looking for products that would help in hydration, nourishment, and radiance. These products are also formulated without gluten, parabens, phthalates, sulfates, and synthetic fragrances.

2019 Makeup Favorites

These were the products that I consistently reached for when I was getting ready this year:

By Terry hyaluronic hydra-primer – blurs imperfections and hydrates the skin

BareMinerals complexion rescue hydrating foundation stick – like colored water. this is just so hydrating

First Aid Beauty bendy avocado concealer – this is my second tube. that’s how much I like this

Glossier stretch concealer – this is what I always use when I don’t want to put foundation on and just want some really light coverage

Trestique highlight and perfect multipurpose stick – the subtle glow it gives is my favorite. It’s also so easy to blend.

Makeup Review: Lilah B Fall Picks

Into mauves and pinks at the moment so the fall picks from Lilah B came at the right time.

The Palette Perfection Eye Quad in b alluring ($58) has muted and deeper tones of pink and mauve perfect for a subtle sultry eye look. If I’m feeling funkier, I add the Glisten + Glow Skin Illuminator for more shimmer.

The Divine Duo Lip & Cheek in b charming ($46) is a mauve shade that applies like a light tint on my lips. I sometimes apply this on my eye for a dewy lid, in combination with the eye quad.

The Virtuous Veil Concealer & Eye Primer in b bright ($44), however, is a favorite because it brightens up my under eyes. This is too creamy for me as a primer but it’s just right as an undereye concealer. I have extremely dark under eyes and the undertone of this one is enough to cover the dark hallows. I also apply this around my nose to cancel redness.

Of course, since they’re in that signature pebble packaging, I can bring them anywhere and reapply.

Makeup Review: Lilah B. Glisten + Glow™ Skin Illuminator in Rose Bronze

A close up the Glisten + Glow™ Skin Illuminator in Rose Bronze from Lilah B. As always, the brand knocks it out with a luxe pebble packaging that not only looks good, it’s also very sturdy.

This highlighter aims to awaken and revitalize dull complexion using black currant seed oil extract, sunflower oil extract, carotenoids, plant sterols, fatty acids, and brown sea algae.

This is a very subtle highlighter. It’s more of a complexion enhancer for me. Unlike other highlighters, this cleanly provides a subtle glow to the high points of my face like the cupid’s bow and my nose (as seen in the photos of me using it). For someone with oily skin , it can be difficult to to find something like this – a highlighter that doesn’t make my skin look like an oiled grease pan after a few hours.

This has a very soft and creamy consistency so it’s easy to use. like using my fingers for a subtle sheen and a brush if I want a more precise and more defined highlight. The skin grabs the product easily and looks like it melts upon contact resulting in a natural-looking application.

The shade Rose Bronze is exactly as advertised. It’s a bronze highlighter with a pinkish undertone that works well for my medium brown skin. It gives off that summer glow that we all want to hold on to for as long as we can. I find that the shade complements medium to dark complexions as it makes the skin have that warm glow.

Monthly Favorites: September 2019

What started as a farm has now evolved into a lifestyle brand. Beekman 1802 works with farmers, craftspeople, and artisans to produce everything from food, home items to apparel and skincare.

They sent over their Triple Milk Collection, which uses three kinds of milk – goat milk to soothe, coconut milk to condition, and milk protein to nourish. As a second cleanser, the Triple Milk Bar ($12) aims to draw out water-based debris before leaving the skin soft and hydrated. This is my favorite out of the set. It’s creamy and nourishing, it easily foams, and it cleanses the skin thoroughly without drying it.

I Dew Care Plush Party Buttery Vitamin C Lip Mask

The Plush Party Buttery Vitamin C Lip Mask ($16) from I Dew Care contains cocoa butter, hibiscus flower extract, and vitamins c and e to moisturize, nourish, and condition the lips.

This does what it claims to do – it moisturizes and nourishes the lips after use. It has a thick texture like most lip masks and lasts through drinking that 3 am water we sometimes need. It feels as if it leaves a film on the lips that doesn’t budge until I brush my teeth. While using this, I haven’t encountered chapping or drying.

This lip mask is also cruelty-free and are formulated without parabens, phthalates, or silicones.

Primera Miracle Seed Essence

I have known about Primera when I first got into skincare. The brand uses seed and sprout extracts captured at the peak of potency to enhance the glow of the skin and provide it with nutrients, vitamins, and minerals.

One of their best-sellers is the Miracle Seed Essence ($58), which promises to smooth texture, improve tone, increase hydration, and help protect the skin from environmental stressors using lotus seeds. This has the texture and consistency of most essences but this has some weight to it. It sinks in quickly but immediately plumps the skin after use. It also feels hydrating and has kept my skin feeling soft. I have been using this every day and consider it as one of the most hydrating essences I’ve tried.

As expected, this essence offers extreme nourishment and moisture to the skin. They also do not use parabens, mineral oil, animal-derived ingredient, synthetic colorants, and artificial fragrances in their formulas so I believe this would also work to those with sensitive skin.
